CLERK DEPARTMENT/DIVISION Finance SUPERVISOR Finance Director CLASSIFICATION Full-time, Non-Union, Administrative Support DEFINITION: This position reports to the Finance Director and will receive moderate supervision. It will perform necessary activities to prepare and process the City's payroll. EQUIPMENT/JOB LOCATION: The position will be located in the City Hall building. It will use common office supplies and equipment to calculate and document the required information. It will also use a word processor to prepare the required typed reports. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB: This position will prepare the payroll for the employees by receiving their classification slips, reviewing, typing and forwarding necessary documents to the City Manager. It will maintain the health and life insurance programs and prepare all required reports. It will keep payroll expenditures in continuous balance with control accounts. The position will maintain employee records accurately on a current basis; interpret and apply appropriate regulations, policy manuals, union contracts, state and federal withholdings, pensions, etc.; sort and distribute all documents as necessary; verify and do data entry for employee file maintenance; complete employee verification requests. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB: This position will develop and revise procedures and forms as needed. It will also provide advice and instructions to departmental personnel about payroll matters. Performs other related work as required. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Must have knowledge of the modern procedures of financial record keeping and data processing methods used in payroll preparation. Must have ability to act independently while performing required tasks. Must have ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally and get along well with others.
